Acknowledging the strength and resilience it takes to go to Romania. To witness thousands of suffering, (and I mean horrific suffering, too graphic to share) desperate and dying dogs and then drive the journey back in the van, taking days, making sure 20+ dogs travelling are all ok, while hardly sleeping, having graphic flashbacks of the ones left behind that you saw with your own eyes, face to face of dogs pleading and begging for help, some given up, some so stressed they have appeared to have gone insane, not to mention the pregnant ones or mothers with puppies as well as the senior and sick dogs it’s absolutely heartbreaking. If you go, you will see many dead dogs… some even from being attacked by other dogs in small prison cells type pens shared with many other dogs… the weakest get attacked and killed in the bad shelters. These warriors go back and forth doing this over and over, seeing all the trauma, rescuing as many as they can, then doing the journey in snow, rain etc plus on top of that finding homes, raising funds to cover costs plus all the admin to run a non profit organisation….. I went to Romania earlier this year and over the space of a few days, witnessed more than ten thousand suffering dogs in horrific prisons (aka shelters). I was brought to my knees again by burning out from being involved in animal rescue and overwhelmed with the seemingly never ending, dark abyss of cruelty to not only the dogs in Romania, but all animals on this planet. At my lowest, that abyss takes me to the depths of grief and sadness, which sometimes can feel too much for my soul to bear. I stayed for some time with 3 rescued Romanian dogs, adopted years ago by a friend, that are thriving and living a rich life, full of love. These 3 lucky ones inspired me to focus on the positives and helped my heart heal. Hello from Sweden! I think it’s important to point out that lives on social media can be easily disguised as always having a great time, being happy etc. I can tell you now that behind this video of me smiling and enjoying life, dark winter in Sweden has tested me and I have had days where I have been struggling with my mental and emotional wellbeing. I read a great book called Digital Minimalism and I have been starting to practice this. After having a break from social media, many things improved for me and is been difficult to return, but I wanted to update everyone that’s been supporting Rescue Quest. Rest in Peace Dale. Dale volunteered and stayed at the shelter with me for some time, he loved dogs so much and said I reminded him of his mum as she also has a dog rescue shelter. We had some heart to hearts in the evenings and he shared with me stories about his life and we became good friends. Dale was so helpful, with the dogs and with fixing and repairing things around the house. I am very grateful to be able to meet such a kind and gentle soul, and grateful for all the good he did while on this Earth. There has been a lot of loss this year and it is very sad. A good reminder to be compassionate to others as we don’t know what struggles some people are going through.

It was worth the wait for them to finally find their forever loving home at an animal sanctuary where this beautiful Costa Rican family take in animals in need and rescue look after them as their own children. Yesterday Beethoven was put to rest. First, we went to our favourite beach together one last time and he had his favourite treats. Before the vet put the injection, he already had his eyes closed and we thought he had passed before she had done anything, that she actually checked his heartbeat. His heartbeat was there but very low and we both agreed he was so ready to go. By the time she put the injection it seemed he was already gone and I know he left very calmly and peacefully with full acceptance. The way that he was ready to go really filled me with comfort. I am very grateful that his passing was designed in the most peaceful and kindest way for us both. We had plenty of time to say goodbye, he wasn’t in severe pain, and thank fully I was back in the country with him when it all happened. I have spent hours going through footage of the best years of my life shared with him and I could make a triology longer than the lord of the rings movies with all the videos I have of us and our adventures. So, I have at least 5 memorial videos and this is the first one; Bini and Beethoven. I will also make Beethoven and his human friends, Beethoven and his dog friends (he had more friends than I even do), Beethoven and our travel adventures all around Costa Rica and also the Best of Beethoven. Call me a crazy obsessed dog mum if you wish, I can admit yes that is true. One of the blessings from this, is we have been gifted with a MOUNTAIN of support from our friends and love pouring in for us from all across the globe. I am doing well, at the sanctuary of la casa of Lola Bond and Dan Cadenhead with Wayra, Bella, Veronica Rivera and her family looking after me while I wait to receive Beethovens ashes to spread along the beach and place in some jewellery. If you were a friend of Beethoven, or if your dog was then you or your dog maybe in the next upcoming memorial videos. Making these videos has been a really positive way to grieve and reminisce on the incredible 3 years we had together. Thank you everyone for your support and love ❤️🐶

Update on Beethoven: I spoke with the vet surgeon today after getting the results from the scan that he will need multiple surgeries and spending at least a month in hospital. The vet said he wants to be transparent with me and the surgery could make him worse, and there’s about a 50/50 chance is success, but we also have to take into account his old age. He urinates himself frequently , but can’t defecate on his own, I have to help him manually and he hates it. He also pants a lot and I thought because he is uncomfortable from not being able to release his bowels easily, but it could be from pain. I tried communicating with him this evening asking him and it felt like he was trying to tell me he is done. Even with all of this I don’t want to make the wrong decision. I hadn’t thought of this until today when the vet said and a friend mentioned it. I was fully focused on treatment and trying to get him to the UK for the best possible treatment. But I also don’t want him to suffer and it will be a long process all of it. My heart still hurts about Pantera and putting her to sleep and with this now it just feels like too much. My heart is so broken. P.s if I don’t respond to messages it’s just because I don’t have the capacity right now

Harassment, attempted break ins, robbery, survival mentality, grieving loss, burn out and a horrific accident. I am not giving up, but just adjusting the sails of the rescue ship. In this video I forgot to mention that Beethoven and I were supposed to be house and dog sitting for the next few months which would have covered our rent costs but that has changed because of unexpected circumstances. I am looking for a stable income working for ethical organisations or companies to support my living, something I can do while I care for Beethoven, as he is incontinent with urine , but unable to release his bowels which I am having to help him do manually with my finger. I also need to be able to change his position every few hours to prevent bed sores and I pray that he doesn’t need surgery because I do not currently have the funds for that. I have considered another option of going back to the UK with Beethoven and rebuilding there, but that is a last resort option. Back from the vet, Beethoven was given anti inflammatory, antibiotics and pain killers. His blood work is all normal and healthy. There is no improvement whatsoever. He can not walk or stand. He can’t hold his head up on his own. The vets don’t know why. I have been researching about ataxia and trauma. I am on full investigation as to what happened to him from this dog bite and what is his treatment. He can’t even go to the toilet. When we took him back from the vet his eyes were wide like in shock. Now he is receiving energy healing and it’s the first time he has closed his eyes and seems more peaceful. #ataxia #dogbite #paralyzeddog #trauma #reiki #energyhealing

This was an unprovoked attack, for those that know Beethoven know he is the most calm and gentle dog to exist on this Earth He is also bullied a lot by other dogs because they can sense his vulnerability, just like that nerdy kid at school that is easy to pick on. He has been attacked many times by dogs and always forgives, he does not have an aggressive cell in his body. He was yelping for a long time after the attack, we went home and I cleaned the wound, he rested and didn’t get up for dinner so I got him up and he was all wobbly like he was drunk. A couple hours later his legs are totally paralyzed and stiff. He couldn’t lift his head up, on a Sunday bank holiday night. I stayed awake with him until we could get to the vet. He has never reacted like this to a dog bite before and the vets are also confused so he is staying in for tests. Beethoven is my companion and best friend as well as a huge emotional support for me. He didn’t eat his dinner and it’s still there in his little bowl in the fridge 😭 When I was getting my shoes and bag to take him to the vet he started crying thinking I would leave him and he can’t get up. And now I had to leave him while he’s suffering. 😭 But he is so resilient he has survived accidents, tick disease and a very invasive type of cancer. Another dog tested positive for distemper. This virus has no cure and only 50% of dogs survive. It is also highly contagious. The ones that survive most likely will suffer from neurological affects such as muscle spasms and tics , seizures, convulsions plus more. This is the third dog in less than a year that is suffering from this, the first two which were both called Pantera had to be put to sleep because of the suffering from it. The vaccine I would strongly recommend any one to get for their dogs would be the distemper vaccine to protect them from having to go through this. The first symptoms are gunky eyes and runny nose. If you suspect a dog may have distemper, do not bring them inside the vet building, keep them outside away from other dogs and the vet will come out to do the test. Newman and Fiona were going to be killed, so @chandanipachamama rescued them and now they live peacefully and very happily in @pachamama_eco_village. There is also a monkey sanctuary where the monkeys are released back into the wild after they recover from injuries.
